Ecology

The entire supply chain, from the farm to the skin processor, is under control. Ecology begins on the farm, continues through transportation, and also involves the activities that process both meat and skin.

The Leather Working Group has certified many skin processors.

Sustainable Farming
  • For sustainable farming, there will be natural water supplies on farms and no deforestation.
Livestock Transportation
  • Transfer of animals through short transport routes.
Meat processors
  • Each processor must register with the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI).

  • MPI (the Ministry of Primary Industries) will supervise the State of the art technology 24/7.
Skin processors
  • For each individual processing plant, MPI registration is mandatory.

  • Upcycling: Skins and hides are leftovers from the meat business. None of the animals that are killed in New Zealand are grown or killed for their hides or skins. The raw material would be thrown in the landfill if it weren't processed into leather.

  • REACH’s main motive is to enhance the protection of human health and the environment through earlier and quicker identification of the properties of chemical substances. The four REACH processes are: registration, evaluation, authorization, and limitation of chemicals.

  • For skin processors, LWG certification is required.

  • Audited wastewater treatment facilities.
